“He came in to the community, and it was evident within a few days that it wasn’t going to be a good fit for him, so we parted ways.”
Karen Ulmer, chair of the board for the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, explained Thursday that Anthony Edgington, hired Feb. 1 as the theatre’s general manager, was let go. Edgington lost his job within a week.
Though the board described the incident as “no big secret,” it was never announced to the media. Karen Ulmer, speaking on behalf of the board of the theatre, stated the board had hoped to announce the GM’s replacement rather than his loss, but a new GM has not been hired as quickly as they thought.
Ulmer also explained the board hoped to hire a GM as soon as possible, but could not say for sure when that would be.
When asked about the hiring process right now, Ulmer stated simply that it looked “very promising,” and that the board was not especially concerned about being able to have a GM in place before the theatre opens.
The City had been in charge of hiring Edgington, but the board is now more involved in the hiring process for the new GM. They are currently reviewing the candidates who lost out to Edgington in the hiring process.
