Driver earns SGI award

Shelton Paton of Maidstone is among this year’s learner drivers from across the province to receive rewards from SGI for improving their driving skills.

All learner drivers are asked to log their in-car hours. SGI recommends that learner drivers log a minimum of 36 hours under various driving conditions over their nine-month learning period.

The information recorded in the completed practice log helps learner drivers focus on the skills they need, and improve their driving, before taking their road test, according to SGI

Each year, SGI randomly chooses 10 winners from all the practice logs submitted to receive a $250 gas card. Other winners were from Duck Lake, Wynyard, Regina, Moosomin, Asquith, Saskatoon and Tisdale.

“Increased driving experience helps learner drivers develop safer driving habits before taking their road test,” said SGI president and CEO Andrew Cartmell. “The incentive program encourages all new drivers to gain the driving experience they need. This keeps our roads safer, and these learners are now more likely to pass the test on their first try. Congratulations to all winners.”

To be eligible for the reward program, learner drivers must submit their practice log with 36 hours completed to the driver examiner at the time of their road test, or mail it to SGI.
