Yes I know that I have not had news in for over a month. I’ve been a tad on the lazy side and not making time to get the column written.

To get things caught up I should start with the ladies’ bonspiel. This year there were nine teams entered. The weekend concluded with a banquet and door prizes donated by various local businesses. First in the A event went to the Darcy de Montarnal rink with second going to Brenda Pollard. First in B event was Huguette Johnson, second was Jackie Toews. First in C event went to Wanda Weber, second was Joanne Bannerman, third was Pauline Kobes, fourth was captured by Stefanie Rogers , while fifth went to Twila Doom. The winner of the diamond ring was Judy Thom.

The winners of the January trip of the month draw were Shawn Blais and Jolene Sittler of Edam, while the winner of the $100 was Kramer Auctions of North Battleford. Congratulations to the winners.

The handi van bingo winners for the month of February were Braxton Letwinetz, Lori Curry, Jessie Armstrong, Vivian Hanson, Diane Mosimann, Margo Young-Brewster (two), Emma Head, Laney Blanchette and Kevin Blanchette. Winning the Valentine basket was Dora Greening. Winning the children’s draws were Carlie Mosimann, Kieran McConnell, Kylee Bec, and Kyle Morin. The March bingo winners were: Elaine L’Heureux, Janet Cadrain, Jessie Armstrong, Sandra Clarke (two), Margo Young-Brewster, Meagan Mannix, Ilene Foulds, John Pollard and Frank Poole. Winning the St. Patrick’s Day gift was Janet Cadrain. Winning the children’s draws were Carlie Mosimann, Braxton Letwinetz, Jessica Curry, Allison Blanchette and JayCee Letwinetz. Thanks to GJB Welding for the donation of the blackout prize and Anita Wolfe, Bonnie Letwinetz and Jessie Armstrong for the donation of the children’s prizes. The final bingo of the season will be held on April 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Recently the school took part in the Knight of Columbus free throw with students continuing on to and winning the regionals as well as the districts earlier this month. Those who moved on were Breanna Wouters, Hailey Shewchuk, Ryan Bec and Larkin McCallum.

The local fire department are holding a demolition derby on June 30 and a show and shine July 1. For more information and entry forms contact Ray Seipp at 306-481-6438. You may also get information and forms at the fire department’s website; www.edamfiredepartment.com.

I attended a meeting at Mervin Feb. 8 regarding the reprinting of their history book, Mervin Memories. Those in attendance were given information from Dave Warwick of Warwick Printing Co. Ltd. of Lethbridge, Alta. The results were going in the direction of reprinting the existing book as well as updating it and publishing as one volume. They are currently looking for anyone who would be interested in helping in the process of updating, typing, proofreading and contacting those who can update their stories and new families in the area to add their stories. Noreen Williamson and Lora Hunt are contact people if you are interested in helping out.

That is all I have for this time. Hope things pick up and if there is something that you think should be in the paper drop a note in the mailbox to me please. You can also send an email with all the details.
