Can we feel what we can't see?

Do we really have a force of energy emanating from our bodies that others can see, feel and manipulate?

The idea of having an additional sense that can register, and perhaps even affect, something so elusive is somehow fascinating.

I've always wanted to see auras, the so-called visible manifestation of on energy field. I've been told my aura is mostly green, but, despite practising all the exercises that are supposed to help develop the ability, I just can't see it – or anyone else's for that matter.

My disappointment, however, has recently been mitigated. I believe, if we do indeed have an aura or some such energy field, I have been lucky enough to have experienced a physical awareness of it, thanks to Bobbi Wright and a reconnective healing session.

I showed up at Bobbi's place of business without having done any research into what to expect. Better to just experience, rather than anticipate, I thought. Neither did she question me about any particular issues, so we both went into the session without any pre-conceived ideas or expectations.

My role in the session was easy. All I had to do was lay supine on a massage table, relax and take note of any sensations I experienced.

The real work was all Bobbi's. My eyes were closed, but I could hear her moving around the room and I could see shadows on my eyelids as if she was moving her arms and hands about.

I have to admit I experienced a number of sensations unfamiliar to any memory I held, including a tickling prickle across the bridge of my nose that I hoped meant my snoring would be cured (not cured, I found later, but lessened). At one point my wrists felt like they were flexing alternatively, and beneath my back, I felt the table drop away. I felt odd twitching sensations in both my feet, and at one point could have sworn somebody poked a finger into the muscle of my left quadriceps.

But the single most unusual experience was the feeling that my body was occupying an entirely different volume in the space surrounding it than what I knew it to be. It seemed to hover around me in an expanded, asymmetrical shape that didn't imitate my true physical shape. In particular, my left leg seemed to have a larger volume than my right, and seemed to be at a different angle than the one I knew it to be resting at.

I had an exciting thought. Was I feeling my own energy field, the one I had tried in vain – and failed – to see? If so, why was my left leg so big, I had to wonder? Could it be giving off extra energy because I'd been having pain from arthritis in my left leg and hip? It seems reasonable.

Following the reconnective session, Bobbi and I conducted a little Q&A session. She noted all the sensations I could put words to, saying, "This energy! It's amazing!" She obviously feels the energy uses her, not the other way around.

I also asked some questions, appropriately, I thought, since I was there as a reporter. She explained what she had been doing, and I liken it to pulling taffy. She had been tugging and pulling away at the rough spots of my energies, smoothing and soothing them, using both her hands. They, she said, had felt hot and itchy sometimes. She told me where she found the strongest energies to be emanating and how, without knowing or needing to know why the energy was uneven, she worked to smooth everything out.

She also asked if I had smelled or seen anything unusual. I hadn't, but I was suitably bowled over by my experience of occupying a different volume in space.

Does she see anything when she conducts these sessions, I asked?

She does and did. In my case, she saw a shimmering over my body, and a white shape standing behind my shoulder. That struck a chord, as in previous First Person Exploit, it had been suggested by a psychic medium that my animal token was a white bird. Hmmm ...

All in all, it was a session to be remembered. I came away with more questions than answers, but then that's the best part of all.
