Comments

Cut Knife RCMP have located the body of a 71-year old man who drowned in Atton’s Lake July 10.

They report receiving a call around 1:55 p.m. July 10 that an unknown man had drowned in a lake at Atton’s Regional Park.

RCMP, ambulance and fire and rescue attended the scene. Upon arrival, RCMP say they spoke with witnesses who said they observed an elderly male struggling to stay afloat in the water and calling for help.

According to police, the male was on an inflatable lounge chair, but somehow got separated from it. He had been about 50 meters from the shoreline. A witness attempted to rescue the male but was not successful. After the male failed to surface the witness contacted the RCMP.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was on site July 11 to begin the search for the man. The RCMP has since located the body and has revealed that the deceased is a 71 year-old male who resided at Atton’s Lake during the summer. The family of the deceased has requested that his name not be released.

The RCMP has ruled out foul play in the incident and the death has been officially ruled an accidental drowning.
