Arson reported at Moosomin First Nation

Battlefords RCMP responded to approximately 30 calls for service between 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8 and 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9.

Police arrested two individuals for alcohol related offences and responded to three alarms, five traffic complaints, two disturbance complaints, one Child Welfare Act call, one minor collision and two nuisance 911 calls.

Sunday

• Report of a hit and run at 11 a.m. on Territorial Drive. Suspect vehicle described as a small grey car struck complainant's vehicle after running a stop sign and fled scene. 

• At 2:28 p.m. members called to the Moosomin First Nation to respond to a report of arson. Two individuals were witnessed fleeing from a car that was on fire. The fire was quickly put out by the complainant. The suspects were located at a residence nearby, one of whom was found to be on warrant status and was also violating her bail conditions. A 23-year-old woman was arrested and is now facing three new charges of failing to Comply with an undertaking, three of assaulting a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. A 27-year old-woman was also arrested on scene without incident. The investigation into the arson is still ongoing.

• Community Safety Officer stopped a vehicle for a speeding violation at 3:37 p.m. on Railway Avenue, and requested assistance after noting other suspected criminal activity occurring. Police arrived and soon after arrested the male driver on suspicion of impaired driving and the female passenger of suspicion of possession of marijuana. Further investigation has shown the male was providing a false name and a stolen identity. He is currently facing charges that included impaired driving, obstruction, and fraud. The female passenger was also found to have false identification and has been charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction. She was also found to be a missing 17-year-old youth from Montreal, Que. Both are to make their first appearance in North Battleford court on Tuesday. The investigation into this matter is continuing and additional charges are expected.

• At 7:38 p.m. members called to a residence on the 1000 block of 109th Street in North Battleford on a report of a disturbance. Investigation into matter reveals two incidents between the two occupants over the course of the evening. A 25-year-old woman has been charged with assault with a weapon and a 27-year-old man is facing a charge of assault. Investigation is ongoing.
