Man in custody after breaching conditions

The Maidstone RCMP are reporting a week with 70 occurrences between May 22 and 28. Some of the most common calls received were related to fraud, impaired driving and collisions.

Call breakdown: Sunday - 20; Monday - seven; Tuesday - 11; Wednesday - 10; Thursday - five; Friday - 11; Saturday – six.

May 23, the Maidstone RCMP received a call regarding a phone scam where the caller identified themselves as being with “CPP” and that the victim had won $25,000. The caller wanted the potential victim to send them $100 to claim the prize. This is a common phishing scam. Police want to make the public aware of this and similar scams and advise to not send any unknown persons any amount of money. Similar scams include the caller stating they are from government organizations such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canadian Revenue Agency or other municipal agencies, all of which either state that the possible victim owe money, or have won a prize that they must claim by paying a specific dollar amount. Please remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

May 23, the Maidstone RCMP were advised by Ministry of Corrections of a potential breach by an offender in the town of Maidstone. The subject was on 24-hour house arrest and left the residence without permission. The man was located in Lloydminster and subsequently arrested without incident. Justin Carter, 27, of Maidstone, has been charged with three counts of failure to comply with conditions and was remanded to the next available court day.

May 24, a report of theft near the Lloydminster was called into RCMP. A vehicle as well as a seacan were broken into and tools and copper wire were stolen. RCMP continue to work with neighbouring detachments and other partner agencies regarding the recent thefts and break and enters.

May 25, a semi hauling crude oil rolled near Lone Rock, south of Lloydminster. Police and Lloydminster Rescue attended the scene. The driver and lone occupant was reported to be uninjured and no crude oil was spilled. The collision is still under investigation.

May 27, police were contacted about a possible arson where a track hoe and small Caterpillar were on fire east of Lloydminster near Highway 303. The cause of the fires is still under investigation.

May 28, Police were on patrol south of Lloydminster in an industrial area when a vehicle was stopped. Upon further investigation the occupants, a 22-year-old man and 18-year-old woman from Lloydminster were found to be in possession of open alcohol. The man was charged for one count of possession of open alcohol.
