At approximately 11:45 a.m. Friday, Shellbrook RCMP received a report of a possible stabbing that took place at W.P. Sandin Public School inside the high school. A 19-year-old male allegedly stabbed a female youth, under 18-years-old, while exiting a classroom.

The victim was transported by EMS to hospital in Shellbrook to be treated for what are described as serious injuries. The male suspect exited the school and was last seen walking south. At 1 p.m. Shellbrook RCMP located the youth suspect in a residence in the community of Shellbrook and he was arrested without incident.

Both the victim and the suspect are students at W.P. Sandin Public School. The type of weapon involved has not been confirmed and is currently being investigated by police.

As a precaution, W.P. Sandin Public School (grades 7-12 with 215 students) and Shellbrook Elementary School (grades K-6 with 165 students) were put in a hold and secure by Saskatchewan Rivers School Division (exterior doors locked and monitored and classes continued). The hold and secure has since been lifted.

The investigation is ongoing.
