Well sites are dangerous party spots: police

The Maidstone RCMP are reporting a week with 83 occurrences between April 17 and 23. Some of the most common calls received were related to speeding, possession of stolen property and theft.

Call breakdown — Sunday – two; Monday - 10; Tuesday - 14; Wednesday - eight; Thursday - 14; Friday - 14; Saturday – 10.

Calls of Interest

April 25, a call was received regarding suspicious persons on Range Road 3274 east of Lloydminster. A group of people were seen discarding several items out of the vehicle. When approached, they drove off in an erratic manner. Further investigation showed that the vehicle, a 2016 black Dodge Caravan with Saskatchewan license plate 866 IFD was stolen. The vehicle had been stolen from Lloydminster in the early morning. This vehicle is still at large. If seen please contact the local police or the Maidstone RCMP Detachment at 306-893-4800.

On April 26, a report of mischief was received by the Maidstone RCMP. It was reported that a well site near Hillmond had been tampered with and that oil had spilled. There was evidence to suggest that an unknown group of people had used the well site as a party location. The RCMP would like to remind everyone that the well sites are private property and should not be accessed by the general public. There are significant dangers associated with working around well sites, abandoned or otherwise, such as H2S gas that could cause serious harm or death to the unsuspecting public. Anyone found unlawlfully on a well site may be charged.

April 27, during a traffic stop on Highway 303, the Maidstone RCMP arrested two men from Lloydminster for possession of a controlled Drug. Subsequently the passenger was charged with possession of marijuana.

April 27, a report of two dogs attacking another dog in Waseca was received. The victim dog received non-life threatening injuries and was seen by a veterinarian. Please keep all dogs on leash or on private property. Owners of dogs may be civilly liable and further charged with a variety of charges ranging from local bylaws to provincial acts and even criminally.

April 28,the Enhanced Policing Unit took a call of a suspicious vehicle near Hillmond. The vehicle was seen repeatedly driving near acreages and when confronted took off. The vehicle, a silver Ford Escape, was later recovered when abandoned west of Hillmond on Township 504 in the County of Vermillion River, Alta. The vehicle had been stolen from Lloydminster.

April 29, Maidstone Enhanced Policing were dispatched to a call of a person on a green dirt bike south of Paynton who chased down a wild animal, hit it with the dirt bike several times and then killed it. The police determined that the animal had been taken to nearby Little Pine First Nation. A male from Little Pine First Nation was arrested for charges under the Criminal Code. Further charges under the Wildlife Act are pending.

April 29, a member of the Maidstone RCMP located an abandoned vehicle at a card lock gas station near Maidstone. The vehicle, a 2009 Honda Civic, had been reported stolen from Regina.
