Closing arguments and Justice Martel Popescul’s charge to the jury are on the agenda today, Thursday, at the second-degree murder trail of Gerald Stanley happening in Battleford.

The charge to the jury is expected in the afternoon, which may include an option to find Stanley guilty of a lesser charge than second-degree murder, such as manslaughter.

In his closing arguments, defence lawyer Scott Spencer called for acquittal.

He said, 'It's not criminal. It's a tragedy, but it's not criminal. You must acquit."

Crown prosecutor Bill Burge has finished his closing arguments as well. He assailed Stanley's credility.

Gerald Stanley took the stand in his own defence to close out testimony at his second degree murder trial in Battleford Monday afternoon.

Court is now on a break and reconvenes at 2:15 p.m.
