It was a night of good food, dancing and donations at the Tropical Inn as the Battlefords Catholic Family Services held their 23rd annual charity dinner and auction Saturday evening.

There were 61 items auctioned off, 48 silent auctions that were placed around the perimeter of the room which allowed people to write their bid on a sheet of paper and 13 live auction items. Kim Kramer of Kramer Auction Services conducted the live auction.

Former local radio personality Jay Crockett was the MC of the event, and began the evening by introducing various people to speak.

“It’s my honour as president to welcome you this evening and to thank you for supporting our dinner and auction,” said CFS president Ken Loehndorf. “We have been blessed with exceptional support over the past 22 years. I would like to sincerely thank the many donors for their ongoing generosity.”

Executive Director Karen Richard shared a story written by someone who took advantage of CFS’ services.

“After going through a traumatic time, with encouragement from family, friends and co-workers, I decided to go for counselling. I called and was taken in quickly,” she read. “I never felt any issue was too small to discuss, nor did I feel rushed. The experience I had at CFS was one of true compassion and understanding. It has helped to ease my pain and began my journey towards healing.”

Other than counselling, CFS also provides a family violence outreach program, support to the exposed to interpersonal violence program, family support services, school based services, parent education program, family conference program, family preservation program, transition skills program, mediation services, critical incident group debriefing and support groups.

Denis Carignan, state deputy of the Knights of Columbus, presented a donation of $2,000 to CFS.

After a three-course meal, the silent auction began being announced. There were items ranging from a coffee machine to a two-night stay for two in Las Vegas.

The silent auction items sold for a total of $6,670, while the live auction items, which included a $1,000 gas card, a massage chair and weeklong stay at Flora Bora Forest Lodging, sold for $12,725.

Danny and the Dusters performed live music while patrons took to the dance floor to showcase their moves.

A draw was done for a diamond pendant near the end of the evening.
