SaskBusiness Magazine has ranked Discovery Co-operative Association among Saskatchewan’s largest companies.

In the magazine’s 2015 list of the top 100 companies in the province, Discovery Co-op placed 61st, up from 79th place last year, with 2014 sales totaling $104 million.

Discovery Co-op has been serving the Battlefords and District region for 83 years and today employs 325 people. In 2014, it delivered $2.38 million to its members in patronage allocations.

“Co-operatives remain a viable and important part of Saskatchewan communities,” said Mike Nord, general manager of Discovery Co-op.

“While we continue to grow and change, our values have always remained the same. We work together by sharing the profits and investing in our community.”

In total, 19 Saskatchewan-based retails co-ops were included on the SaskBusiness list, representing combined sales of $2.3 billion in 2014.

At the top of the magazine’s rankings is Saskatoon-based Federated Co-operatives Limited, which is owned by 210 retail co-operatives that span Western Canada into northwestern Ontario. Its 2014 sales rose 15 per cent to $10.8 billion.
