A multi-stop tour on the state of health care in Saskatchewan is happening in September and the Battlefords will be a location for one of those meetings.

The Council of Canadians National Office and the CUPE Health Care Council are co-hosting the meetings. The Council of Canadians health campaigner, Michael Butler, will be one of the speakers on the tour, which will include a focus on the province's moves towards privatization.

A town hall meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall, 262 -22nd St. in Battleford.

According to their news release about the tour  “privatization is creeping into the system. The provincial government has been cutting and privatizing hospital services. They have allowed private for-profit clinics to set up shop. And now they have proposed pay-for-access MRIs, where those with money jump to the front of the line and you wait longer.”

The tour is an opportunity for people to “learn about the latest threats and new provincial legislation.”

The Battlefords stop will be the mid-point for the tour; other town hall meetings are set for Prince Albert, Yorkton, Weyburn and Regina.
