Once again the city is receiving provincial money to fund seven existing RCMP officers for targeted police initiatives.

The provincial government is granting the city $770,000, which will fund those seven positions in 2017-18. The grant is aimed at supporting enhanced community policing throughout the city, allowing officers to have a more visible role in the community and allowing for targeted enforcement to address the more serious crimes.

This is an annual grant, one that the city has also received in previous years to fund the seven RCMP positions.

“Community safety continues to be a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” said Advanced Education Minister and Battlefords MLA Herb Cox, in a statement on behalf of Minister of Justice and Attorney General Don Morgan.

“We are happy to help support the dedicated RCMP members in North Battleford through the Municipal Police Grant.”

Mayor Ryan Bater also welcomed the funding.

“We thank the province for the ongoing commitment as this program is a tremendous support to our community safety strategy and provides seven additional officers to the Battlefords RCMP Detachment to focus on serious and organized crime within the city,” Bater said in a statement.
