The Borden Friendship Club held their annual get-together with clubs from Langham, Maymont and Radisson invited for supper and entertainment June 20.
There were over 100 in attendance in the Borden Community Centre for a cold plate supper, with President Eileen Petrun welcoming everyone. The blessing was given by Ruben Rempel.
After a delicious supper served by the Borden Club, Slim Chance from Saskatoon entertained. With keyboard, saxophone, trumpet and tambourine, the trio sang many familiar tunes such as The Circle Be Unbroken, Love Letters in the Sand, Old Time Religion, Who Stole My Kishka, Let it Shine and many more, entertaining everyone for an hour and a half. Winning the 50/50 draw of $118 was Ron Magnusson of Sherwood Park, Alta. Winning gift cards were Karen Schmidt, Tina and Siebert Boehr, Wendy Sherlock, Mary Carpenter and Shirley Rosenfeldt.
The tables were decorated with bouquets of flowers and, if you were lucky to have the green tape under your chair, you won the vase of flowers. They went to Peter Thiessen, Tom Hrenkiew, Rita Smith, Marg Balzer, Lottie Petriew, Wendy Sherlock, Martha Rempel, Archie Wainwright, Bob Izsak, Walter Nickel, Norm Dyck, Ed Neufeld, Tina Hessell, Gerry Chouinard and Bert Carpentier. A bouquet of roses was won by Karen Schmidt but she gave many away to the ladies working in the kitchen. Thank yous were extended to Borden from the Maymont, Langham and Radisson clubs for a great supper and entertainment.
Borden United Church held a potluck lunch and gospel music service June 25 with close to 30 on hand to enjoy a cold plate lunch prior to the 1:30 p.m. service. Gayle Wensley presided at the service and music was provided by Russ Fountain on guitar, Gayle playing dobra guitar, Ed Neufeld playing the fiddle and Pam Pidwerbesky, Gayle and Russ providing the vocals. Everyone joined in singing Church in the Wildwood, This Little Light of Mine, Just a Closer Walk With Thee and It Is No Secret, while the quartet sang God of the Mountain. The United Church at Borden and Speers are off for July and August and do not resume services until Sept. 3.
St. John Anglican and Riverbend Fellowship will be having services every Sunday through the summer.
The Riverbend Fellowship Church held a Pig Roast in the Park on June 25, with salads, beans, pulled pork, buns and white or chocolate cake for dessert. The Budd Family entertained before and after supper – Dan and Lori Budd with family Jolane (Michael), Emily and George and their friends Breanna and Karen playing guitar, fiddle, bass viola, mandolin, harmonica, box drum and banjo. They played a variety of tunes including Know Where, Worship the Man, Road to Gloryland and more. Any profit from the evening was going to the Borden Care Home Generator Fund and, on behalf of the board, Terry Tkaczyk thanked the Riverbend Fellowship for their generous donation to the fund.
A 90th birthday come and go tea for Daphne Pearce was held at the farmyard of Eric and Darlene Pearce. It started out on the lawn but a heavy shower moved everyone inside the house for the cutting of the cake and singing Happy Birthday. Many relatives, neighbours and friends from afar and locally attended to enjoy cake and beverages and to wish Daphne all the best.
