At least one Saskatchewan Party leadership contender has now filed his nomination package to be an official candidate.

He is Scott Moe, MLA for Rosthern-Shellbrook. Moe announced in a news release Tuesday that he has submitted his papers to officially be in the race.

“I want to thank my supporters and caucus colleagues that helped me collect the signatures needed to file my nomination package,” Moe said in a statement. “With over 300 signatures from over 40 constituencies, our campaign has started with support from all four corners of the Province.”

Moe also announced that MLAs Steven Bonk and Muhammad Fiaz have been added to the list of MLAs endorsing him, bringing that number up to 22.

Moe has also pledged to unveil his policies over the coming months. One of those was unveiled Wednesday in Weyburn, where Moe announced his policy on expanding and diversifying Saskatchewan’s international trade and exports.

As part of that proposal Moe pledged to create a Ministry of International Trade and Exports, replacing the Ministry of Economy.

“The new Minister responsible for International Trade and Exports will be mandated with establishing Saskatchewan’s presence in the countries that account for the largest share of Saskatchewan exports, while maintaining Saskatchewan’s relationships with neighbouring jurisdictions in the United States,” said Moe in a news release.

The others who have declared they are running in the leadership race are Tina Beaudry-Mellor, Ken Cheveldayoff, Alanna Koch and Gord Wyant. All candidates have until Nov. 24 to officially file their nominations with the party, which includes a filing fee of $25,000.
