Ritz should resign as candidate

Dear Editor

I have been a supporter of the Conservative Party both financially and voter-wise for many years. In the current election I am most disappointed with the executive of P.C. Constituency organization for allowing Gerry Ritz to be the candidate for election.

This is basically an agricultural area and during the last government, Mr. Ritz served as agricultural minister. Serving in that capacity, against the vote of the farmers who wished to maintain the Canadian Wheat Board, he and the Progressive Conservative government did away with the Canadian Wheat Board and never even considered having anything in place to see to the orderly shipment of farm produce to market. As a result, there were many farmers who did not get their product marketed and had holdover of their produce.

I urge the constituency executive (and you as voters should add your voices) to consider asking Mr. Ritz to resign as the candidate for the constituency, with the provision that because of his failure to serve the farmers of Canada as he should have as the minister of agriculture, that he should not be eligible for pension for his time so served.

I am sure there must be someone who would consider letting their name stand as the candidate for the constituency and give the voters the opportunity of having a Conservative representative for the constituency. I personally will not vote for Mr. Ritz. Will you? Yours truly,

John Smith
