William Wardill of Eatonia still lives where he was born 83 years ago. A virtuous old sage with a wicked wit, he became an omnivorous reader almost as soon as he learned the alphabet. He read about the First World War when still a child and was almost old enough to enlist in the Second World War. His boyhood was spent in a safe passage through the Dirty Thirties. Since earning a university degree in history and English in 1991, he has published numerous columns, articles and books, including a novel in 2010. His work is coloured by small town living, ecological concerns and a belief in a personal obligation to community.

I am Waseca born and raised, graduated from the Maidstone High School in 1963 and then attended the University of Saskatchewan School of Agriculture in Saskatoon graduating from there in 1965. I have farmed all these years, but have rented most of my land out now so I am semi-retired. My wife, Beverly and I have been married 44 years, raised five children (two daughters and three sons). We have been blessed with 15 grandchildren ranging in age from 19 to two years old.
My Vic’s View column is written in segments. First I write about how I have recorded the hoar frost dates, which I believe reflects the weather that will come back in six months. The Home Front section tells of the day to day happenings on the farm. The Political Front reflects on my views of politics. In some columns I write about reminiscences of the past and to end the View there is always a Joke of the Week.
