A busy year for village residents in 2012

January: Tom Caldwell's 87th Birthday. Wing night fundraiser at Maymont Hotel for Relay for Life. Ten-year-old Korbin Prescesky caught an 11 pound eight ounce jackfish. Sherman and family travelled to Hawaii.

Tom Caldwell was guest of honour at an 88th birthday part at Maymont Seniors' Centre. Helping celebrate were his daughter-in-law Colleen and niece Laurie.

January: Tom Caldwell's 87th Birthday. Wing night fundraiser at Maymont Hotel for Relay for Life. Ten-year-old Korbin Prescesky caught an 11 pound eight ounce jackfish. Sherman and family travelled to Hawaii.

February: Family Day at Hillcrest Senior Centre, Battleford, put on by Jon Sloan. Eva Babineau celebrated her 50th birthday. Tom Caldwell was a guest in the North Battleford hospital, also our dear friend Muriel Kotelko. Potluck supper in Ruddell. Milly Beaudoin passed away. Jodi Kepers' bridal shower at the Maymont Hall. Albert Beaudoin retired.

March: David Gillatt closed his business, Lilac Electric. Maymont Memorial Hall held their annual meeting. First jam and potluck at Maymont Hall. Birthday party for Al and Jim Carnahan, John Reddekopp and Margaret. Community planning meeting. Elsie Nimilowich and Jim Teabay passed away. Eightieth birthday party for Kay Greenslade. Darlene Melrose retired.

April: Trade show. Carol Deagnon turned 65. Maymont Sharon United Church spring supper. Surprise party for Jay Babineau's 75th birthday. Kayla Grey turned 13. Country Gospel event in Maymont Hall featuring Copper Creek, Dwight Hemmerling and Homeward Bound.

May: Alick Brook and Guy Bourassa rode through Maymont on their way from Edmonton to Halifax to raise awareness of sexual assault and exploitation of children.

June: Steve Heidel was nominated in the youth category and then selected to receive the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. 2012 high school graduates: Chad Bernier, Haylee deStrake, Kaitlyn Dubyk, Reegan Johnston, Melyssa Kraft, John MacIntosh, Cole Pozdrowski, Dillon Prescesky, Galyn Prescesky, Rebecca Rothenburger, Scott Tanner, Sarah Wenner and Kelsey Wood.

June: Maymont potluck supper and jam session. Living Sky School Division 202 Student Hall of Fame. Glenburn Regional Park facelift. Edna Carnahan turned 70.

July: Long weekend at Glenburn, jamming Saturday and gospel music and pancakes Sunday. New windows and new roof put on the Maymont Seniors' Centre. Lorne Ducharme and Bernice Roach passed away.

August: New Canada Post office opened, and also Radmont Insurance office. Twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Cheryl and Kolin Bulmer. Maymont boys were in The Parade of Power at the Western Development Museum. New addition for Devon Beaudoin's family. Glenburn Regional Park hosted appreciation barbeque for the Good Sam Group who had given the concession a facelift.

September: Seniors' centre potluck with entertainment; seniors from Borden, Radisson and surrounding areas joined in. Back to school. Bert Carpentier turned 75 years young. Glenburn Regional Park closed down for the season. Gertie Sherman turned 94. Jean Sherman turned 70 - no, just kidding, actually she turned 75 but doesn't look a year over 65.

October: Jeff Beaudion and Chris introduced us to their new son Canyon Austin. Maymont Harvest Bash at Maymont Hotel. Fowl supper at Sharon United Church. Maymont Legends a big success again and looking forward to next year for another big event. Two new faces at village council - congratulations, Brian Ducharme and Leonard Voegeli. Thanksgiving.

November: Remembrance Day at Maymont Central School. Bert, Mary, Kari and Koral Carpentier and John Vanderveen traveled to Thompson and boarded a train for Churchill, Man., to be with the polar bears. Elsie and Ernie Voegil moved to North Battleford. Trade show. Surprise birthday party for Pat Reddekopp, and birthday wishes to our friend Russell Beaudoin who turned 60.

December: Tag A Bag came into effect at the Waste Transfer Station. Car-Mel officially received notice they have been accepted to perform at Telemiracle in March 2013. Maymont Hotel hosted several Christmas dinners. Thank you. Dawn, the food was superb.

If I forgot anyone or anything important, sorry. I hope 2013 is bringing everyone good health, great wealth and much happiness.

Maymont Skidoo Rally - 100 riders braved the bitter cold Jan. 12 at the skidoo rally sponsored by the Maymont Hotel. They cruised a 100-kilometre trail that went west to Demchuk's, then north near Richard, east to Russell Beaudoin's for a rest, gas and food stop, before continuing through the Fielding pasture, south to Fielding and back to Maymont. The Maymont Settlers hockey team sponsored the rest stop. A bountiful feast of chili and buns, various salads and a variety of desserts were enjoyed by all.

First for the rider cash prize was Tom Redhead, second Jared Mezzaras, third Mick Hogan and fourth Blair Brandle. Winners of the raffles were Steve Lovenuk, Troy Parry, Raeanne Ducharme, High Ross, Daryl Jeschke, Russell Orchard, Tom Redhead, Jeff Penner, Darrin Earis, Bob Moate, Ashton Bernier, Hailey deStrake, Colby Beierle and Kerry Kubric.

Just a reminder of the gospel music fundraiser at Zion Lutheran Church Jan. 27, 2 - 4 p.m. with donations to Telemiracle. Performing will be Car-Mel Country, Good Old Boys, Carl Ross, John Archer, The Eberles and the Gill Brothers.

An 88th birthday party was held in the Maymont Seniors' Centre for Tom Caldwell. Also celebrating a birthday was his daughter-in-law Colleen and niece Laurie. Thanks to the girls who put on the party and the great supper.

Maymont potluck supper to be held Jan. 30 in the Maymont Seniors' Centre. Supper at 6 p.m., followed by cards, games, etc. Come and have an evening of fun and great food.
