Dave Lever (left), the food division manager at the Lloydminster and District Co-operative, helped dish up roast beef over the noon hour Oct. 19 in the Neilburg Community Hall.  The lunch was a joint venture with the Co-op, Synergy Credit Union and Viterra.  The following day, there was a barbecue lunch at the Marsden Co-op grocery store to continue the celebration of Co-op Week.

The cross-country season has wrapped up for another year at Neilburg Composite School. Mr. Walso and Mrs. Covey report the team had a year of renewal with a large number of elementary students joining and attending meets in Unity, Macklin, Lloydminster and Meadow Lake. A number of our local students won ribbons and medals. Our one senior student, Chad Graham, ran at the district meet Oct. 6 in Beauval and earned a 14th place finish. This year's team included: Hallie Goodfellow, Konnor Hiscock, Brandon Koch, Braxton Snell, Zcharles Dimaano, Dominic Madlang-Awa, Hannah Prystupa, Dianne Dimaano, Jarrod Ryan, Carter Cammidge, Jorin Black, Wyatt Marshall, Lindsay Gibbons and Chad Graham.

Driver education classes began Oct. 25 for NCS students who will be 15 by Feb. 29, 2012. Lessons will continue until Dec. 2.

The school is looking for a bingo game, yarn and cotton or poly/cotton fabric in pieces one metre or larger. If you have any of these items, that you no longer want or need, you can drop them off at the school office.

A discarded high jump mat was stolen from the NCS school dumpster/garbage area and has now ended up in the Neilburg Beach area at Manitou Lake. Since this mat was removed from the school yard without permission and outside of school hours, the school does not have responsibility for its current resting place. It would be greatly appreciated if the people involved in the removal of the mat from the school yard would pick it up and take it to the dump.

The 2010-11 yearbooks have arrived. They are available for purchase from the school office and are a nice keepsake of the past school year.

The Grade 11 and 12 students will be travelling to Saskatoon, with Principal Worman, Oct. 31, to participate in the See Your Future conference. The students will be talking to representatives from various post-secondary institutions from all over Canada, as well as attending presentations.

Figure skating and CanSkate is beginning for the winter with Lesley Briggs as instructor. For more information, contact Amber at 823-7288.

Mrs. Joan Gibb is working on the annual Christmas pageant for the Neilburg/Marsden United Church. The drama is called The Not-So-Silent Night and there are 12 speaking parts and 15 non-speaking parts (pantomime). It is non-denominational. Practices begin Nov. 2 and they will continue every Wednesday after school. Refreshments will be provided and all are welcome.

The Neilburg branch of Synergy Credit Union celebrated Credit Union Day by hosting coffee and cookies within the branch Oct. 20.
