Work bees at the Western Development Museum in North Battleford continue, with interested volunteers continuing to show up. A winter project is working on antique stationary engines. There is much cleaning to be done. The engines have not been used for many years and need many repairs. It is hoped they will be running by spring. There are also many other little repair jobs to be done.

The Christmas drive through the WDM village, which is sparkling with lights and decorations, is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. until early January. So far, museum staff manning the entry booth say they are seeing a good turnout.

The spirit of Christmas should not be confined to a single day, nor is it. All those who truly believe in “good will toward men” honour it in their hearts and live it every day of the year. They cherish the continuing warmth of friendship, the ever new birth of the babe, who lived to teach us peace and love. And though friends may be far away or seldom met, that too makes no difference to the steady flow of hope and good will that continues to bind together those who put their trust in the power of loving kindness and in all that we mean by human.

The holiday season is the celebration of joy and peace and a time of family and friends. Even howling winds, blowing snow and plummeting temperatures can’t stop the lights from shining during this festive season.

Christmas lights and decorations in the Battlefords have been drawing a steady stream of admirers.

My husband Stanley and I wish to extend a very Merry Christmas and New Year’s greeting to the News-Optimist staff and the country correspondents, columnists and friends and all the reader of Baljennie News.
