The busy days of September are rapidly moving by, with many tasks to perform before the chilly autumn days roll in. Getting dark by 8 p.m. is a big adjustment after doing yard work later than that earlier in spring and summer. The temperatures are to be soaring by this weekend if the weatherman is correct.

The wee hours of the morning became a reality with the arrival of Shay Rylan Woloshyn. He was three weeks early weighting 6 lbs. 3 oz. , with lots of dark hair.

Proud parents are Ryan and Melissa. Grandparents are Bard Paradis of North Battleford and Nick Oliynyk of Saskatoon and, of course, my husband Dave and I. Great-grandparents are Olga Woloshyn and Annie Paradis of the Battlefords. Annie’s maiden name is Sapchuk and she grew up on a farm near Mayfair.

I just found out that Fran and Gerald Ewanchuk are grandparents again when Paige Madison arrived Aug. 15th. Their oldest son Justin and wife Adrienne are now proud parents to three children including two-year-old Danica and five-year-old Jarrett. They reside in Regina. Great-grandparents are Dorothy Youst and Stella and Walter Ewanchuk from North Battleford.

Congratulations to both families on their additions.

Former rural residents Orville and Anne Pollard celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this past summer. This is truly a milestone and a small celebration was held in their honour. They reside in Saskatoon.

Spontaneously, Russel Dean, Faye Liebaert’s brother from Moose Jaw, decided his siblings should meet for an afternoon gathering at a Chinese restaurant. Thirty family members met at this Moose Jaw establishment for a quick visit, laughs and excellent smorgasbord. Driving from Mayfair to Moose Jaw and back home again in one day was a big day for Faye and Keith last Sunday.

Again, we are fortunate to have Louise Sylvester from North Battleford to instruct yoga at Mayfair Hall this fall. Lessons will start Monday, Sept. 26th with a price of $100 for eight sessions or  $15 a session for drop ins. For more information and for registration please call Teresa at 306-246-4812

Sept. 10 a bridal shower was held for Brittany Ewanchuk of Saskatoon at her parents’ Whitkow farmyard. Her parents are Fran and Gerald. There was a large crowd of women and children with a Tupperware consultant giving a demonstration with some cookware. Guests were asked to write down some words of wisdom for the bride and a few games were played with much laughter involved. A delicious lunch was served.

The marriage of Brittany and Michael Ciona is Oct. 8th in Saskatoon. She is the second oldest daughter and is employed as a branch administrative assistant for Business Banking Department in one of the city’s credit unions. Michael is a TV reporter with CTV Morning Live Show from 6 to 9 a.m. weekdays on a Saskatoon station.

The small St. Joseph’s Catholic Church east of Mayfair was packed for the annual mass this past Sunday. This is always a joyous get together, as people have lunch and reminisce about the pioneers who built up the community.

Also on Sunday, many people from near and far wished Mary Konopelski a happy 80th birthday at a luncheon in Rabbit Lake Hall. It was a cool day weather wise, so many farmers had time to attend and visit with neighbours.

Mayfair’s Save a Third World Child donated $1,900 towards a school to be built in Uganda early next spring. This club has donated a substantial amount of money to different needy countries over the past year and a half. It became a formal organization in March 2015. Every little bit makes a difference.

Please do not forget to attend the farmers’ market and craft sale this Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Mayfair Hall. Lunch is served between 11 a.m.  and 1 p.m. at a very reasonable price. This is a fundraiser for the Creative Corner Club.
