We were all shocked when we heard of the sudden death of Dorothy Ponto. She passed away in Lloydminster May 25 at the age of 80 years.

Dorothy, as she was known to all, came to teach at Walter school. She met and married Milton Ponto of the Walter district in 1951 and together they farmed in the district till only a few years ago when they moved to Lloydminster. During their time on the farm they raised four children - Sharon, Barry, Gwen and Colleen.

They were all, besides a busy home life, very active in the community. Dorothy served on many boards and committees including the Waseca Home and School, Waseca Hall board, local school board, 4-H leader, homecoming committee and history book committee. Besides these committees, she and Milton were busy with their family's school activities, ball, hockey, skating lessons, curling, boy scouts and 4-H. Everyone enjoyed their worthwhile participation.

Dorothy was a wonderful hostess. She loved cooking and their home was always open to visits from their family's friends or their own friends, whom she entertained with a meal and a card game. Many people will have fond memories of time spent at the Ponto home.

Funeral service for Dorothy was conducted from the McGaw Funeral Chapel and she was laid to rest by her husband Milton, in the Lloydminster City Cemetery.

Our sympathy is extended to her children and their families, to other relatives and her many friends.

Arlee Lumgair spent the weekend travelling with her grandson, Arlan who rode in three rodeos including at Unity, Mankota and Kindersley.

We were saddened to learn of the death of a former Battlevale resident, Ian Morrison, who passed away at Castlegar, B.C. at the age of 66. Ian attended Waseca and Maidstone schools, then studied to be a welder, working in Lloydminster where he met and married Marjorie Harrison, They raised two children, Douglas and Wanita. After spending some time farming, the family moved to British Columbia.

Ian was predeceased by his parents Don and Helen. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Marjorie, his children and their families, his siblings, Marion, Neil and Allan, and their families, also other relatives and many friends.

It is a busy time for 4-H members. At this time every year, achievement days are held where members show some of the things they have learned during the past year. Vic and Bev Hult attended the achievement days in Lloydminster where their grandchildren were involved.
