Four graduate from H. Hardcastle School

This week we will start with the graduating class of 2012 from H. Hardcastle School. This year there were only four students who have left the hallowed halls of H.H.S. The festivities started with a banquet held at the Legion June 27.

This week we will start with the graduating class of 2012 from H. Hardcastle School. This year there were only four students who have left the hallowed halls of H.H.S.

The festivities started with a banquet held at the Legion June 27. Masters of ceremonies were Reed Delainey and Madison Detillieux. Following an excellent supper catered by the Edam Catering Club, the program continued with Miranda Moline giving the toast to the teachers. Mrs. Trina Deobald replied. Mikayla Detillieux gave the toast to parents with her parents giving an emotional reply. The final toasts were given by Gilmour McDaid to the girls and the girls - Miranda Moline, Mikayla Detillieux and Bailey Delainey - giving the toast to the one and only boy, Gilmour. Awards presentations completed the evening.

The graduation exercises were held June 29 at 2 p.m. in the school gymnasium. This followed the graduates visiting the Lady Minto Health Care Centre residents. Masters of ceremonies were 2011 graduates McKenzie Nordell and Mitchell Detillieux. The program was opened by Lisa Blaquiere singing the national anthem, accompanied by Mrs. Darcy deMontarnal on piano.

Introductions of the students were given along with a slideshow which showed their life while in school. This year the valedictory address was given by Bailey Delainey. Following the valedictory address, the scholarships and scrolls were presented by principal Byron Merkosky and vice-principal Lorne Long. Gilmour McDaid then give acknowledgements to those who helped make their day special for them.

Bailey Delainey, escorted by Dayne Iverson, is the daughter of Brent and Suzelle. She won the following awards: Division 4 general proficiency; history; Math 30C; most valued classmate, School Community Council (most improved student); Turtleford School Division multiple intelligence awards of $400 each for academic, fine arts and practical applied arts (PAA) ($200, shared); local board scholarships of $300 each for academic proficiency and general achievement; Innovation Credit Union scholarship ($1,000); Battlefords Dance Festival scholarship ($1,000) and the Edward's School of Business scholarship ($24,000 over four years) and Spirit of Drama and honour roll. Future plans: Edwards School of Business, specializing in commerce/law.

Mikayla Detillieux, escorted by Damon Schaefer, is the daughter of Martin and Monique. She was awarded the Edam Health Care Auxiliary Scholarship of $200 and a Battlefords Union Hospital Healthcare Scholarship of $500 and honour roll. Future plans: U of S college of arts and science, pursuing medicine.

Gilmour McDaid, escorting Tammy Stoeckli, is the son of Larry and Judy. Awards he received were: Abe Wouters Community Service (Edam Credit Union Ltd), $300; North of the Oilman's, $500; Stellar Insurance Scholarship, $250; Garry's Construction Ltd. Scholarship, $500; Access Communications Award, $200; and honour roll. Future plans: U of S college of engineering.

Miranda Moline, escorted by Riley Macnab, is the daughter of Tracy Moline and Darryl Valliere. She won the female senior athletic award. Future plans: working at Child's Special Needs Care.

Also during the graduation ceremonies, Kristen Gordon received the Governor General and the Lawrence and Madge Severson awards. It was missed in the grad story last year that Kristen received a $1,000 scholarship from the Battlefords Union Hospital.

The undergrad awards were held June 19 in the gym. The following students received the following awards: Joel Blaquiere - industrial arts, Turtleford School Division intelligence award $400, athletic excellence, PAA $200 (shared), industrial arts, Grade 11 honour roll; Shanae Blaquiere - Citizenship Award, Turtleford School Division multiple intelligence award $400, citizenship, ELA 30A, ELA 30B, Law 30, general proficiency $150, Grade 11 honour roll; Reed Delainey - golf award, academic achievement $150, Grade 10 honour roll; Kalie Nordell - girls' athletic, Grade 9 honour roll; Jesse Cadrain - boys' athletic, Grade 9 merit roll; Kennedy Schaefer - girls' runner-up athletic, general proficiency $150, Grade 9 honour roll; Anthony Cole - boys' runner-up athletic; Dallon Becotte - boys' runner-up athletic, Grade 9 honour roll; Kienyn Nordell - home economics award, general proficiency award $150, Grade 11 honour roll; Brittany Bec - academic achievement $150, general proficiency Division 3 girls, Grade 9 honour roll; Kelcey McCarthy - academic achievement $140, Grade 11 honour roll; Wyatt Malenfant - General proficiency Division 3 Boys, Grade 9 honour roll.

Grade 7 honour roll students were Lindon Goodall, Jared Greening, Brittany Nedelec and Kesha Schaefer. Merit roll students were Ryan Becotte and Kieran McConnell.

Grade 8 honour roll students were Cordell Beynon, Mason Blais, Taya Cole, Mason Detillieux, Zachary Gordon, Tyson Long, Melissa Monteith, Bailey Morin, Payton Morin, Kade Mosimann and Tayla Poole. Merit roll students were Jayden Manastyrski, Jonathan Seipp and Jensen White.

The sole Grade 9 honour roll student was Shyla Hamel and on the merit roll was Breanna Wouters.

Grade 10 honour roll students were Jessica Bec, Jessica Cadrain, Madison Detillieux, Brent Kobes, Kaitlyn McCarthy, ShaeLynn Nedelec and Hailey Shewchuk. Merit roll students were Zachary Nedelec and Austin White.

Grade 11 honour roll students were Hunter Beynon, Jesse Blais, Emma Head, Brandi Kobes, Henri L'Heureux and Brooke Roach. On the merit roll were Marc LaClare, Denzil McCaffrey and Damon Schaefer.

It was also noted that of the 16 aggregate medals given out at the high school track meet May 16, eight were won by H.H.S. students. The medal winners were: bantam girls - Payton Morin (gold), Taya Cole (silver); bantam boys - Jonathan Seipp (gold), Kade Mosimann (silver); midget boys - Wyatt Malenfant (gold); junior girls - Kienyn Nordell (gold); junior boys - Owen LaClare (silver); senior girls - Kelcey McCarthy (gold).

The elementary students participated in their annual track and field meet June 8. In kindergarten; no medals are awarded, however, Kasen McDonald set a record in long jump and the 50m dash, Owen Orchison set a record in ball throw and Meadow Carver set a record in standing jump.

The winners of medals are as follows. Six-year-old boys: Gage McDonald (who set records in long jump, ball throw, standing jump, 50m, 100m, 200m) first, second place to Ashton Wagner. Six-year-old girls: Allison Blanchette (who set records in long jump, ball throw, standing jump, 50m, 100m, 200m) first, second to Lacy Pelchat.

Seven- and eight-year-old boys: Lee Bonsan (who set records in standing jump, 50m, 100m, 200m) first, second to Tyson Orchison (who set a record in long jump) and Tyne Cole. Cameron Becotte set a record in ball throw. Seven- and eight-year-old girls: Ava Cole (who set records in long jump, ball throw, standing jump, 100m) first, second to Kylee Bec (who set records in 50m, 200m).

Nine- and 10-year-old boys: Brady Deobald (who set records in ball throw, standing jump, triple jump, 400m) first, Isaiah Morin (who set a record in 100m), second to Trayton Poole (who set a long jump record) and Brennan Seipp (who set a high jump record). Nine- and 10-year-old girls: Jade Cole (who set records in long jump, ball throw, high jump, triple jump, 400m) first, second to Abby Millard (who set records in standing jump). Jacinda McConnell also set a record in 100m dash.

Eleven- and 12-year-old boys: Andrew Seipp (who set records in long jump, standing jump, triple jump, 100m, shot put) first, second to Blake Blais and Ty Mosimann (who set records in ball throw, 400m). Brandon Burgess set a record in high jump. Eleven- and 12-year-old girls: Jamie Millard (who set records in long jump, high jump) first, second to Haily Brennan (who set a record in 100m). Raina Cole set records in triple jump and 400m. Macey Levasseur set records in ball throw and shot put, and Natasha Nedelec set a record in standing jump.

Both girls' and boys' relays were won by the Eagles team while the overall point winners were the Cougars with 446 points. Congratulations to all the award and medal winners.
