Saturday, August 6 was a gorgeous day for the kick-off of the Radisson Ag Society's 90th annual fair, with slo-pitch starting in the morning and then the parade at 11 a.m.

Leading the parade were the RCMP and flag bearers Tell and Earl Kieper, followed by Mayor Walter Kyliuk, MLA Randy Weekes and the CIBC Run for a Cure car. There were a number of floats, including ones from the Radisson Library, the Nutting family and the Radisson Wheat Kings hockey team. Vintage cars and tractors participated, as well as a number of bike riders, quads, horseback riders and a team of black Percherons driven by Brad and Gay Funk of Langham. The Borden fire truck, water truck and rescue unit along with the Radisson fire truck and rescue vehicle were also part of the parade. Candy, necklaces and flags were thrown out for the kids to enjoy.

Beeper the Clown entertained for three hours in the afternoon, making animal balloons, face painting and giving out suckers, pictures to color and tattoos. The mini-tractor pull was held with winners in different age groups: ages 3-4, Darby Werezak; ages 5-6, Kendal Venn; ages 7-8, Wyatt Friesen; ages 9-10, Jordan Hessell.

The musical jamboree was held both afternoons in a large tent and was well attended. The Saturday groups providing music were the Penner family of Saskatoon; Fountain, Karpan and Schultz of Radisson; the Julseth family, Borden; Mel Deagnon, Maymont; Wally, a singing sign painter from Saskatoon; Petriew & Co, Radisson; Howard Bulmer, Maymont; and Redberry Grass, Borden.

Gymkhana events were held on Saturday and I will get the results for next week. A beef and pork supper was served in the arena adjacent to the beer gardens to about 150 people Saturday and to over 100 on Sunday.

At the Saturday night dance sponsored by the Radisson Fire Department, Branded Honey played at the arena for a crowd of 350.

During the night the winds came up and two inches of rain was dumped on Radisson, forcing the cancellation of Sunday's Light Horse Show and the vintage tractor pull, but many attended the pancake breakfast and in the afternoon the Musical Jamboree featured the Penner Family; Hamp Band of Radisson and Hafford; Dave, Hiebert, Adelaide, Bill and Steve Puto of Hafford; the Ukrainian Connection Band of Radisson/Saskatoon; John Cherneski and the Wiebe brothers of Saskatoon; Norm and the Golden Aces of Blaine Lake/Saskatoon; and a hometown quartet of Lorie Amson, Pam Pidwerbeseky and Zanus and Wilmer Hamp.

Play in the slo-pitch tournament was delayed Sunday while water was pumped off the diamonds. Out of the 20 teams playing in the tournament, the Stotts won the A event, defeating the Gummers 'n Givers in the final. On the B side, the Whitkow Beet Festival beat out the Nutting Family.
