Did everyone enjoy the bright harvest moon Oct.1. It could be seen every night that we didn’t have cloud cover. It was near the autumnal equinox, which usually happens Sept. 22. Most years the equinox falls in September, but every third year or so, as this year, it lands on Oct. 1. The sky was pretty with clouds drifting so you could see stars here and there.

We welcome Brenda Zurowsky as new librarian to our library. She took over and opened Sept.8. The library hours are Tuesday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. The library’s first challenge for folks is a Book Spline Contest for four age groups running from Sept. 14 to Nov. 1. Entries are to be submitted online. This is a kind of poetry that you really don’t write from scratch but find it by arranging book titles to make a poem. This type can be serious, funny or just like a regular poem. The best place to work on this project would be the library where there are lots of books to work with.

Bridge was played at the Pioneer Hall Sept. 29 with top score going to Donna Scherman and Vern Iverson. Second were Gerry Craig and Anna Marie Waldbillig. Oct. 1 top score was a tie between Catriona Winterhalt and Donna Scherman and David Sharpe and Vern Iverson. Coming in third were Margaret Dyck and Dave Creegan. These folks were happy to have an excuse to be outdoors Thursday evening, to witness the bright full moon.

Visiting from Houston, B.C. are two of my nephews, Bill and Wayne Sullivan. They are spending time with my brother Bob’s family and golfing on these nice fall days.

The transfer site is still on summer hours but starting Oct. 17 will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

When cleaning up my flower pots and working over at the park I have noticed there are lots of ladybugs everywhere. Missing this fall seem to be the maple beetles that have been so plentiful most falls. This year I haven’t seen any. The mysteries of nature.

Pickleball starts up again Oct. 14 in the Meota Community Complex, from 2 to 4 p.m. Drop-in fee is $3. Bring a water bottle and hand sanitizer. Racquets are provided.

With harvest winding down we are surely appreciating these nice warm days. The golf course remains busy, with folks getting in every game they can before freeze-up. Likewise we see motorbikes also getting out there before it gets too cold.

Congratulations go out to folks celebrating anniversaries and birthdays this month. Maybe we will get some pictures from some of these to share.

Keep happy and safe as we continue our quest to avoid the virus.
