Santa arrived in Borden on Dec. 15 in a sleigh driven by Laura Unruh, Jeanette, Jordan and Ivy Houk to hand out candy bags at the Borden Co-op grocery. Inside the store there was hot chocolate, apple cider and a variety of goodies for the kids and adults to sample.
On Dec. 11 members of the Friendship Club and friends travelled by chartered bus to Saskatoon and took in the Enchanted Forest Light Show and upon arriving back in Borden after viewing a beautiful display, everyone enjoyed hot chocolate and goodies in the Club Room.
On Dec. 16 in the Borden Community Centre, the three churches – Anglican, United and Riverbend Fellowship – held their annual potluck supper and program put on by the Adventure Club. There was a variety of dishes and desserts to satisfy appetites, with MC Darrel Wiebe giving the blessing. For the program, the Grade 1 class sang and recited Jesus Jingle, then the play Good News Flashdepicting a reporter interviewing people about the birth of the baby Jesus, such as shepherds and travellers to the inn, ending with the Nativity scene and stating this was the Greatest Story Ever Told. With Pam Pidwerbesky playing piano, Ron Mills the guitar, Gayle Wensley led carol singing. The third play was Reason to Celebrate, about shopping, giving and receiving, homeless and how we all need to share the story of Jesus’ birth with everyone and give gifts of love to all. The children, using wooden batons and with actions, portrayed the song What a Glorious Night. A letter was read to not look in Bethlehem, look right where you are, listen to your heart and find the stillness in me and was signed: Love, Jesus. The non- perishable food that was collected along with some cash, after expenses, will go to the local Christmas hampers being assembled at Affinity Credit Union in Borden.
Upcoming in Borden is the School Christmas Concert Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Borden Community Centre.
The Grade 12 class have a pancake breakfast at the centre on Dec. 21 from 7 to 10 a.m. Then there is no more school until Jan. 7, 2019.
The Borden Community Centre Preservation committee will be drawing for a $150 basket of goodies on Dec. 21.
Dec. 31, the Borden Volunteer Firefighters will be hosting a New Year’s Eve social in the Borden Community Centre with $5 admission, licenced bar, potluck munchies and lunch, with the doors open at 8 p.m.
