As well as hosting many friends at a retirement party, Jean McPherson and Jim Maxwell have been enjoying lots of company. We wish Jean many happy retirement years following a busy teaching career.

Their son, Robbie Maxwell, returned from Spain where he has been teaching English. He was accompanied by his friend, Angela Ramil-Iglesias. Angela is enjoying her time here. She hopes to be working in Canada in the fall.

Jean's brother, Ted McPherson, and his wife, Barbara, who are working in Germany, living in a town called Assler, spent a few days with Jean and Jim and family. As well, they visited with their family (children and grandchildren) in various parts of Canada as well as friends before returning to Germany.

Other visitors with Jim and Jean included Susan and Paul Logan of Dartmouth, N.S. Susan and Paul were former teachers in Lashburn, Hillmond and Waseca.

Visiting with Jim and Jean and family presently is their nephew Allan McPherson of High Prairie, Alta. Allan is the younger son of Ted and Barbara McPherson.

Members of a former Waseca family, the Campbells, gathered at the Waseca Community Centre July 17 to celebrate the life of John Campbell. John passed away recently at his home in California where he had lived most of his adult life. They buried his ashes in Waseca Cemetery. John , his three sisters and their mother, Alice Campbell, originally residents of the Walter district, moved to Waseca in 1946 where the children attended school. In 1955 they moved to Saskatoon. John was predeceased by his father in 1944, his mother in 1973 and his sister Betty in 2011.

Our sympathy is extended to John's wife, his children and their families, his sister Jean and his sister Irene and her family.

We were all saddened on hearing of the death of a lifelong resident, Milton Ponto, of the Walter district north of Waseca July 13 at the hospital in Lloydminster.

Milton was born in the Maidstone Hospital in 1923, the fourth child of Ferdinand and Pauline Ponto. He took all his school at Walter School, including Grades 9 and 10 by correspondence with the help of teachers at Walter School.

In 1951, Milton married Dorothy Schingler, a teacher at Walter School. Together they raised four children, Sharon, Colleen, Barry and Gwen. By this time Milton was an established farmer.

Milton led an interesting life. Before settling down to farming he spent time working in Edmonton, Vermilion and Toronto. While in Edmonton he furthered his education.

He was above all a family man, but loved to travel and was interested in history, especially history of Saskatchewan areas. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards and enjoying conversation.

Milton was laid to rest July 17 in Lloydminster Cemetery. Our sympathy to his wife, Dorothy, his children and their families and the many relatives and friends who will miss him.
