This weekend will be a busy one for the Battlefords arts community, as they will host a large variety of programs for the general public - music, dance and otherwise.

This Saturday, the galleries will be holding two events. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upper Mezzanine of the Don Ross Centre, Carmen Poetschke will be holding the second of two dance workshops, entitled Points of Change. The workshop is described as "an opportunity to explore the deep connection that exists between movement, interpretation, our natural environment and the healing arts."

Poetschke, who will be leading the workshop, is a dancer from Bowen Island, B.C., with a variety of experience all over Canada. Participants require no previous dance experience, and can register by contacting Ashley Johnson at ashj_28@msn.ca or 490-7417. Admission for the workshop is $25.

Later Saturday, at the Chapel Gallery, the public is invited to come enjoy contemporary dance and live music from 7 to 10 p.m. Byron Olsen and Lana Quinn, of Ruddell, have recently released an album, Firefly, under the name Gild the Lily. The concert will feature their music and dance from Ashley Johnson and Carmen Poetschke, as well as activities for children and refreshments.

Gallery members are encouraged to bring anyone interested in becoming a gallery member, as there will be a draw for those that sign up. Admission for this event is by donation.

Sunday, the Allen Sapp Gallery will hold a variety of events open to the public from 3 to 8 p.m. around its Healing Garden Project. From 3 to 4 p.m. there will be a teepee raising for First Nations artist Lyndon Tootoosis. After the teepee raising, Oriol Dancer will lead the creation of prayer flags to be hung in the garden.

At 6 p.m. there will be a potluck dinner. Participants are encouraged to bring bread, fruit, or other snacks to share. The event will also be used to decide on seeds to order for the garden, which will be planted in the spring.
