Getting spooked at Fort Battleford

Loud screams and then laughter were heard intermittently in the cool clear night air at Fort Battleford Historic Site Saturday.

Many volunteers from Red Deer, Alta., Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Fort Walsh and the Battlefords went all out to create the ghoulish atmosphere to present the 2018 version of Haunted Fort.

Visitors waited in the main building until a shuttle came to take them to the stockade. The first stop for the visitors was the commanding officer’s house. From there they continued on to the officers’ quarters, then the horse stables and the jailhouse. After that they were shuttled to Barracks 5 to end the evening of fright.

Doorways, under tables, stairways, jail rooms, dark corners and even outside the buildings were used to the maximum. Nothing was off limits for ghouls to hide and jump out at guests.

Visitors left laughing at being thoroughly frightened by the night’s activity.

Tami Conley-Blais and her volunteers can be proud they have successfully executed the 13th Haunted Fort Battleford evening.
