One of the most well known seasonal oratorios, The Messiah, will be performed at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts in North Battleford Monday.

Taking part in the performance is local mezzo-soprano soloist, voice instructor and choir director Lisa Hornung.

This production of one of Handel's most famous works will feature conductor Duff Warkentin and the Prairie Virtuosi, a classical chamber orchestra based out of Saskatoon. Warkentin is a well-known Saskatchewan choral clinician and adjudicator.

Along with Hornung, soloists will be fellow Saskatchewan singers Barbara Milner, Robert Dick and Matthew Pauls.

Hornung is looking forward to the performance.

"My personal favourite, Messiah is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, most inspired work ever written," she says. "To perform this music in our community with wonderful, soulful musicians, supported by an enthusiastic audience makes my heart smile!"

The Messiah was composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible and from the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer. It was first performed in Dublin in 1742.

Tickets to Monday's performance are available from the Dekker Centre. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
