Country Wives is the new exhibition at the Chapel Gallery with works by Métis artist Leah Dorion.

This collection is reflective of the folk art movement, but each piece is drawn from her own life as a Métis artist. The exhibition honours the role of Métis women in building their families, communities and nations in the past.

Leah was raised in Prince Albert and has been a teacher, painter, filmmaker and writer. Her latest children's book, The Giving Tree, has been nominated for a Willow Award.

This collection of paintings shows Leah's interpretation of women's activities in building their families and communities. The pictures are vibrant, with colour and texture working together to create the image that defines the story.

There will be a reception at the Chapel Gallery on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m.This is your opportunity to meet Leah and learn more about her inspiration and technique. Country Wives will be on exhibit until Oct. 16.
