UCC award to former NW resident

Slawko Kindrachuck of the Saskatoon, originally from Round Hill/Whitkow area, is being recognized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress with a Nation Builders Award.

Slawko Kindrachuck of the Saskatoon, originally from Round Hill/Whitkow area, is being recognized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress with a Nation Builders Award.

Kindrachuck, a retired educator, is being recognized for innovation in teaching and as a community leader.

The award will be presented during the UCC Saskatchewan Provincial Council awards luncheon Nov. 3 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Regina.

Among Kindrachuck's leadership initiatives are serving as chair of the Vesna Festival, Kapraty Pavillion and Ukraine Day in the Park. He has also led the UCC Saskatoon branch and was co-chair of all Saints Church building committee. He has served as president of UCC-SPC and is also a fellow with the Shevchenko Foundation.

According to a press release, UCC began its official recognition program as a way to pay tribute to Ukrainian Canadians for outstanding service.

The Nation Builders Award is presented to those who have made meritorious contributions that have had a significant impact, left a legacy and/or provided an exemplary role mode to the Ukrainian community.

Others honoured with Nation Builders Awards this year are Patricia Hawryliw of Saskatoon, Nestor Ortynsky of Canmore and Fredrich Tkachuk of Melfort.

Also presented will be Community Recognition Awards, presented to persons who make contributions in one or more areas of youth achievement, leadership, volunteerism, culture preservation and development and/or creativity and innovation to the Ukrainian community.

Receiving those awards will be Nissa Barran of Saskatoon, Fr. Methodius Kushko, Yorkton; Helen Kushner, Moose Jaw, Merle Maximiuk, Yorkton and Michael Zaleschuk, Regina Beach.
