Fleeing break-and-enter suspect can’t outrun police dog

Two male youths suspected of breaking into garages and vehicles in the Burntwood area were arrested Sept. 8 around 4 a.m. with the help of a police dog.

One of the suspects sustained minor injuries from a dog bite and Thompson RCMP officers found a machete while pursuing the two youths, who were held in custody until they appeared before a judicial justice of the peace, who released them until a court appearance in October.

RCMP were notified that the suspects were using crowbars to try to get into a garage but left the area. The police dog tracked the suspects through several residential yards and found one, but he continued running after being told to stop and that he was under arrest. The police dog, Deny, was released from his leash and caught the suspect. The second suspect was found hiding in a nearby yard.

RCMP ask residents to ensure vehicles, garage and homes are locked and to file police reports if they suspect trespassers have been on their property overnight.
