Danny Rakochy couldn’t believe his eyes. The Canora man was shocked when he checked his LOTTO 6/49 ticket and discovered he won $250,000 on one of the April 20 Guaranteed Prize draws.
“I had to check and recheck the ticket a few times,” he said. “I even went to a different store and checked the ticket again and again. I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
The happy winner said he has one major plan for his winnings.
“I’m going to pay some bills,” he said. “Then I’m going to take some time to think about what else to do.”
“It’s definitely going to help make life a little bit easier,” he said.
Rakochy purchased his $10 LOTTO 6/49 ticket at the Canora Pharmacy located at 214 Main Street in Canora. His winning selection was 21291093-02.
In Regina, Aaron Benson had some trouble sleeping after checking his May 1 WESTERN 649 ticket and discovering he won $250,000 on the EXTRA draw.
“I was up late and checked my numbers on the lottery website,” he said. “When I saw that my EXTRA numbers matched, I took a deep breath and said, ‘Oh my God!’”
“I couldn’t sleep at all that night,” he continued. “My mind would not shut down. It all felt so surreal!”
Benson said he passed the time chatting with a friend in a different time zone.
“It was really late and I knew most of my friends would be sleeping, so I called a friend of mine who lives in B.C.,” he said. “I just had to tell somebody!”
The happy winner said he has started to think of ideas for his winnings, but hasn’t made any decisions just yet.
“I know I’ll pay some bills and put some into savings,” he said. “I might look into taking a vacation somewhere warm, too!”
Benson purchased his winning ticket at the 7-Eleven Food Store located at 2177 Broad Street in Regina. He won the top prize by matching all seven EXTRA digits – 5927529.
