Alberta man arrested south of Biggar, charged with arson, possession stolen property

An Alberta man wandering around the fields and a gravel road with no shoes or shirt was arrested and charged after a vehicle was found torched south of Biggar.

According to Cst. Mark Wright of the Biggar RCMP, on Aug. 1 at about 9:10 a.m. police responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in a rural area in the R.M. of Biggar.

“It was reported to police that a truck engulfed in flames was found in an open field.”

Cst. Wright said a passing motorist saw the suspect wander from a bush in the area of the vehicle fire. He was described as wearing no shirt and no shoes.

RCMP determined that the truck was stolen out of Kindersley and at about 9 p.m. that day police located a man matching the description in the area.

RCMP charged Michael Steven Moyan, 28, from Cold Lake, Alta., with arson, damage to property, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Moyan was taken into custody and made his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Aug. 4. Moyan was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to make his next appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Aug. 31, at 2 p.m.
