Charges pending against impaired driver found with assault-style rifle

Charges are pending against a 28-year-old male driver who was found with a loaded assault-style rifle.

According to the RCMP, on March 24 at approximately 3 a.m., Battlefords RCMP were called to a business on the 11000 block of Railway Avenue for a complaint of an impaired driver.

An RCMP member arrived on the scene and spoke with the owner of the business, who told police that a nintoxicated male had damaged some of the owners' property and had driven off in a truck. This was passed on to members on patrol.

The vehicle was located soon after and was pulled over on the 1700 block of 100th Street. Battlefords RCMP member approached the vehicle, spoke with the driver and noticed he had a firearm sitting between his legs. The driver was arrested without incident.

Police say the investigation further revealed the driver had a fully loaded assault-style rifle with a high capacity magazine. The investigation is continuing.
