The court has ordered a mental health evaluation for a Biggar man accused of assaulting three people with his vehicle, pointing a firearm at a person, escaping police custody and stealing a vehicle.

A bail hearing was scheduled for Jordy Leschinski in Biggar Circuit Court May 5 but his legal aide lawyer asked for an adjournment until May 11. Due to COVID 19 Biggar court matters are being heard in North Battleford Provincial Court by telephone.

Leschinski, 20, is facing 19 charges. According to court documents, Leschinski had a loaded Winchester 94 in the back of his Dodge Ram. He allegedly pointed a firearm at someone on April 18. After being arrested by RCMP, court documents say he escaped police custody at the Biggar hospital and stole a vehicle to flee.

Three RCMP Detachments, Saskatoon Police and RCMP Police Dog Services assisted Biggar RCMP in locating Leschinski near Landis shortly after midnight on April 19.

The Crown is proceeding by way of indictment against Leschinski.
