Escapee in custody after standoff

A man who escaped Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford Sunday has been taken into custody by Saskatoon police after a standoff Tuesday afternoon. According to a Saskatoon Police news release, a call was received shortly after 11 a.m.

A man who escaped Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford Sunday has been taken into custody by Saskatoon police after a standoff Tuesday afternoon.

According to a Saskatoon Police news release, a call was received shortly after 11 a.m. that a man had unlawfully barricaded himself in an apartment in the 2100 block of 7th Street East. He was taken into custody about six hours later.

At 8:43 p.m. on Sunday, Battlefords Rural RCMP responded to a report of an escaped prisoner. Joseph Simon Peter Yaremko, 32, had been in secure custody and escaped from the forensic unit at the Saskatchewan Hospital. Yaremko is believed to have been picked up in a vehicle by an accomplice outside of the facility.
