On May 25, defence lawyer Blaine Beaven told the Lloydminster Provincial Court that his client waived her right to a preliminary hearing and elected to be tried in the Court of Queen’s Bench. Last month Beaven told the court he was in discussions with the Crown about a proposed resolution in Heathen’s case.

Heathen was arrested in Prince Albert on July 16, 2020, after a lengthy investigation by RCMP Major Crimes Unit North.

In February 2021, Twobears Bird, 22, was arrested in Prince Albert and charged with accessory to murder. In April the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.

Bird’s matter will be before the court again on June 14.

The charges against Heathen and Bird haven’t been proven in court.
