A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of a man after he failed to stick around in court to deal with his matter.
Trevor Cummer, 39, had an appearance scheduled in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 27. The court acknowledged that Cummer was in court in the morning but left before his name could be called. Judge Murray Pelletier dealt with all other matters throughout the day and called Cummer’s matter about another five times and even had the sheriff look around the courthouse to see if he was in the building. Cummer never surfaced the rest of the day so the judge eventually issued a warrant for his arrest.
In October 2020, Cummer was charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences. Ashlyn Paules, 26, was also charged. All the charges against her were stayed in January.
In January Cummer pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a knife for a dangerous purpose, and possession of proceeds of crime. After he pled guilty, defence Jonathan Bodvarson had asked the court for a later sentencing date so Cummer could “get his affairs in order.”
When Cummer failed to appear before the judge on April 27 as scheduled, Bodvarson asked the court for leave to be withdrawn as Cummer’s counsel. Judge Pelletier granted the request.
