There may be a resolution in the case against a woman accused of killing 26-year-old Braeden Sparvier, which means a trial would be avoided.
Defence Blaine Beaven told the Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 19 that he has had “a lot of resolution discussions” with the Crown in the case against Shari Priscilla Heathen. She is charged with second-degree murder, robbery and several breaches.
Beaven said he hasn’t been able to meet with his client to discuss the Crown’s proposed resolution and he is setting up a video call with her. He asked the court for another adjournment until May 25.
Beaven waived Heathen’s attendance in court today. She has been incarcerated at Pine Grove Correctional Centre in Prince Albert since her arrest in July 2020.
Heathen is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Sparvier. Twobears Bird, 22, of Onion Lake Cree Nation, is also charged. Bird was arrested in February 2021 and charged with accessory to murder.
The charges against Heathen and Bird haven’t been proven in court.
Sparvier’s body was found on Jan. 1, 2020, east of St. Walburg in the R.M. of Frenchman Butte. Police say the investigation into Sparvier’s death is ongoing and they encourage anyone with information to call Turtleford RCMP at 306-845-4520.
