An Onion Lake man arrested by the North Battleford RCMP Crime Reduction Team pleaded guilty in Lloydminster Provincial Court Oct. 19.

Lyndon Belly, 34, was arrested Aug. 15 and charged with resisting arrest, break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of cocaine.

Police say they tried stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation but the driver sped away. The police started a pursuit and put spike belts on Hwy 17 twice to stop the vehicle but the truck evaded them by leaving the highway.

The vehicle eventually stopped and police saw two women and a man flee the vehicle and break into a nearby house. At the house, police arrested Belly, as well as Wanita Harper, 30, of Onion Lake Cree Nation, and Cheyenne Harper, 27, of Lloydminster. Cheyenne Harper was charged with break and enter and resisting arrest. Wanita Harper was charged with break and enter, resisting arrest, fleeing from police, driving while disqualified, refusing to provide blood alcohol samples, and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The North Battleford RCMP gang unit was sent to Onion Lake Cree Nation Aug. 12 to 16 to tackle alleged gang activity.

The RCMP CRT members collaborate with communities and partner agencies to reduce gang violence and activity. There are two CRTs operated by the RCMP in Saskatchewan – Prince Albert and North Battleford. Provincially funded police resources in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince also have CRTs.

Cheyenne Harper was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court Nov. 4 to elect how she wants to be tried.

Wanita Harper was denied bail and her next court appearance is Nov. 4 to enter an election as well.

Belly remains in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Oct. 26.
