A man arrested by the Saskatoon Police Guns & Gangs Unit was sentenced to prison on weapons and drug trafficking charges. A sentencing hearing for Keenan Rorion Chakita, 19, was held in Saskatoon Provincial Court July 14.

Keenan Chakita was sentenced in Saskatoon Provincial Court on drug trafficking and weapons offences. When Saskatoon Police arrested him in a taxi in February, they found a firearm, 33 grams of cocaine, 226 grams of cannabis, bear spray and more than $600 cash.

A man arrested by the Saskatoon Police Guns & Gangs Unit was sentenced to prison on weapons and drug trafficking charges.

A sentencing hearing for Keenan Rorion Chakita, 19, was held in Saskatoon Provincial Court July 14.

During an investigation, Saskatoon Police observed activity consistent with drug trafficking and at about 4:05 p.m. on Feb. 10, they conducted a high-risk vehicle stop on a taxi near 25 Street East and 2nd Avenue North in Saskatoon.

Chakita was arrested from the cab without incident. On him police found a firearm, 33 grams of cocaine, 226 grams of cannabis, bear spray and more than $600 cash.

He was charged with eight firearms-related offences, trafficking cocaine and cannabis, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of release conditions.

With concurrent sentences on the charges he will serve 18 months in prison.
