Violence surrounding the Tiki Laverdiere murder case continues at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre.

According to the Canadian Press, Brent Checkosis, one of the eight people charged in Laverdiere’s death, was stabbed and seriously injured while on remand.

Two inmates accused of stabbing 18-year-old Checkosis appeared in court Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Checkosis was stabbed with a homemade knife.

At the time of publication, the News-Optimist wasn’t able to confirm why the stabbing occurred.

Checkosis, along with Jesse Sangster and Mavis Takakenew, are charged with accessory after the fact to murder in Laverdiere’s death.

Nikita Cook, Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas, Soaring Eagle Whitstone and Nicole Cook are charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre is in lockdown today due to fights that occurred at the facility.
