Michael Hill, 20, was arrested near Onion Lake First Nation Monday after Onion Lake RCMP, Turtleford RCMP and Police Dog Services searched the bush in the area for several hours.

According to a press release, Onion Lake RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious man approaching vehicles on a grid road outside of Onion Lake at about 1 p.m. Police say members responded to the scene where they located the man by a truck, which was reported as stolen.

As officers approached the man, he fled into the bush, police say.

Hill was unlawfully at large from a low-security, provincial corrections work camp.

Hill sustained what were described as minor injuries from a PDS dog bite during his apprehension and was taken to hospital for treatment, the release states.

As a result of this incident, Hill has been charged with driving while prohibited and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He remains in custody and will appear in Onion Lake Provincial Court via CCTV on Aug. 1.
