A man charged with murdering an adult and sexually assaulting a minor had another court appearance but the matter was adjourned in Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Nathan Waditaka, 19, is charged with second-degree murder of a man and aggravated and sexual assault against a minor female after an incident in December 2019. Prince Albert RCMP said they were called to the Wahpeton Dakota Nation Health Centre after they had a complaint of an assault against a teenage girl. Police identified Waditaka as the suspect and they arrested him at a nearby residence.

The female victim – who is a minor – was taken by ambulance to a Prince Albert hospital. A man with life-threatening injuries was also in the home where the girl was assaulted. He was taken to a local clinic and pronounced deceased by EMS. Police later identified the victim as a 19-year-old man. The court has ordered a ban on publication on details that may identify the victims.

Waditaka was granted bail and released with conditions after a judicial hearing in Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench on May 26 but during a July 2 court appearance he was remanded back in custody.

He had an appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court July 23 for election but the matter was adjourned.

He is now scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court Aug. 13 to elect how he wants to be tried.
