A fire at the Unity’s North West Terminal rain dryer had emergency responders on the scene at 7:20 a.m. Thursday.

Unity firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze that was contained to the dryer.

Because of the dryer’s proximity to NWT’s business offices the workers were evacuated, according to Unity RCMP.

According to police the elevator was staffed at the time of the fire, and the cause of the fire is not considered to be criminal.

At 3 p.m. Thursday RCMP were urging motorists to refrain from stopping to look as they travelled past on Highway 14, as such behaviour was causing risk to other motorists.
