Onion Lake man charged after fatal hit and run

On April 25, Onion Lake RCMP received a call that a person had been struck by a vehicle in front of a residence on Chief Taylor road on the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Police and Emergency Medical Services attended and found the victim was deceased at the scene of the collision.

The victim, a 13-year-old youth, had been operating a dirt bike when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to remain at the scene, but was later located at a residence in the community.

A 28-year-old male, Courtney Cook, from the Onion Lake Cree Nation is charged with

1 count, Failure to stop after accident causing death, Section 320.16(3), Criminal Code

2 counts, Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired, Section 320.14(3), Criminal Code

Courtney Cook remains in custody and will appear in the Lloydminster Provincial court April 27.

The family of the deceased has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
