Onion Lake woman appears in Lloydminster court on murder charges

An Onion Lake woman charged with the murder of an Onion Lake man had another court appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court and the matter was adjourned.

Shari Heathen, 27, appeared Oct. 19 on second-degree murder charges in connection to the death of Braden Alfred James Sparvier, 26. His body was found Jan. 1, 2020, along a road in the R.M. of Frenchman Butte, which borders Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Heathen was arrested in July 2020 after a seven-month investigation by RCMP Major Crimes North. Police say the investigation into Sparvier’s death is on-going and they encourage anyone with information to call Turtleford RCMP at 306-845-4520. Heathen is now scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court Nov. 23 to elect how she wants to be tried.
